In the book, Katniss received her Mockingjay pin from Madge Undersee, the mayor's daughter rather than Greasy Sae, like the movie shows. Madge was also the niece of Katniss's mother's childhood best friend, Maysilee Donner, who was killed in the same Hunger Games that Haymitch won. He held her hand as she died.
